Long-distance medical transportation: Illinois to anywhere the road goes.
Moving a loved one closer to family, bringing them home after a hospital stay, or heading somewhere warm for the season? We drive them there in our own accessible vans — the same Transportation Specialists the whole way, door through door, with no airports and no handoffs.

Not sure whether to drive or fly? Call us — we’ll help you weigh the distance, the client’s comfort and health, and cost, and point you to the right service.
We drive the whole way.
No airports, no handoffs. The same van and Transportation Specialists take your loved one from the pickup door to the destination door — with only brief stops along the way.
Two specialists, non-stop.
For long-distance trips, Rainbow Road Transport sends two Transportation Specialists who rotate at the wheel. Because one drives while the other rests, the trip runs continuously to the destination — no overnight stops.

Our Own Fleet and Transportation Specialists
The same Rainbow Road Transport van and the same trained, background-checked Transportation Specialists take your loved one the entire way — no swapping vehicles, no strangers at a handoff partway through.

2-Min QuoteWhen flying may be the better choice.
Road travel is comfortable and avoids the airport entirely, but it isn’t always the fastest option over very long distances. When you call, we’ll help you weigh road versus air for your situation — honestly.
A nurse or medical escort, by road
If a client would be more comfortable with clinical support along the way, a nurse or trained medical escort can be arranged on request to accompany a long-distance trip. Tell us about the client’s needs when you book and we’ll match the right Transportation Specialists and let you know what’s possible.
Arranged case by case. Standard long-distance transport is provided by our Transportation Specialists, who offer transportation and non-clinical assistance — not medical or post-operative care.
Flight Nurse Companion
For very long distances, or when a nurse escort and a shorter travel day are the better fit — a registered nurse travels bedside-to-bedside on commercial flights. It’s a separate service from long-distance ground transport, for medically stable clients. Rainbow Road Transport does not provide air ambulance service.
Flight Nurse CompanionClear about what we provide.
Rainbow Road Transport provides non-emergency medical transportation with hands-on, non-clinical assistance for long-distance and interstate trips by road, designed for clients whose care needs are non-emergency. When a trip calls for clinical support along the way, we arrange a nurse or medical escort in advance for that specific trip. Two Transportation Specialists rotate at the wheel so the trip runs straight through to the destination, with brief stops for Specialist rest, restroom, and fuel.

Questions we hear most
Still unsure? Call (847) 585-8888 and we’ll walk you through it.
Yes. We take long-distance and interstate trips to and from any U.S. state, as long as one end of the trip is in Illinois — the pickup or the destination. We drive door through door the whole way in our own accessible vans.
No. On long trips we send two Transportation Specialists who take turns at the wheel, so the trip keeps moving to the destination. We stop only briefly: for the Specialists to swap and rest, for restroom and comfort breaks, and for fuel.
For shorter regional trips, one Specialist may be enough — we’ll confirm when we plan the trip with you.
Every long-distance trip is custom-quoted by distance and transport type — there’s no flat rate. We plan the route and send you a clear, itemized quote before anything is booked, with no obligation. Call (847) 585-8888 or use the quote form on this page.
Long-distance and interstate trips are best arranged a few days ahead so we can plan the route and the Transportation Specialists — though we do our best to accommodate discharges on shorter notice. Call (847) 585-8888 and we’ll tell you honestly what’s possible.
Yes. Our accessible vans carry clients who walk, clients who ride in their wheelchair (including bariatric wheelchairs), and clients who need to travel reclined in our Stretcher-Alternative transport chair. Tell us about mobility, oxygen, and any equipment when you book.
Not by default. Our Transportation Specialists provide transportation and non-clinical assistance — this is not an ambulance, and there’s no emergency or in-transit medical care. If your loved one would be more comfortable with clinical support, a nurse or medical escort can be arranged on request for a specific trip; tell us when you book.
It depends on the distance and on your loved one’s comfort and health. Driving avoids the airport entirely. For destinations a commercial flight reaches, our Flight Nurse Companion service is another option — an RN travels bedside to bedside with a medically stable client. Call (847) 585-8888 and we’ll help you weigh it.
