Medical travel · Flight Nurse Companion

A nurse at your loved one’s side, every mile.

Non-emergency medical travel on commercial flights, with a registered nurse at their side the whole way — from the bedside at home or the hospital, through the airport and the flight, to the bedside at the other end. Domestic or international. One coordinator plans every leg, so your family doesn’t have to.

Bedside to bedside

One company, every leg of the trip.

Many medical escort services book the drive to the airport through someone else. We run our own ground fleet — so the team that picks your loved one up at the bedside flies with them and gets them to the door at the other end.

Ground and air, one team.

We move clients from the hospital bed to the airport — including onto stretcher-equipped commercial flights — and our registered nurse stays at their side in the air. With our own ground fleet at both ends, there’s no handoff to a stranger at the curb.

For medically stable clients who can fly commercial — with monitoring, oxygen, or medication support in the air when it’s needed.

Clinical scope

Who we can — and can’t — safely fly.

Flight Nurse Companion is for stable clients who can travel commercial. When it isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you.

Who we fly
Non-emergency, medically stable clients
Clients needing monitoring, oxygen, or medication management in flight
Stretcher-on-commercial — with an RN onboard for a stable client
Who needs an air ambulance
ICU-level, ventilator-dependent, or actively unstable clients
Those need an air ambulance — a medical aircraft we don’t operate
We’ll tell you plainly, and help you arrange one through an air-ambulance provider

Every trip runs on physician orders. We work with the client’s own physician for medical orders and fitness-to-fly clearance before any trip, and our intake screens for stability so an unsuitable case is flagged early. The nurse traveling with your loved one is licensed in the state they’re flying to.

Who flies with them

A registered nurse on every trip.

No levels to choose between. Every Flight Nurse Companion trip is escorted by a registered nurse, from the first pickup to the final handoff.

Clinical Care in Flight

Monitoring, medication, and oxygen management, following the client’s physician orders.

Hands-On Help the Whole Way

Mobility, transfers, and boarding help — from the bedside to the seat, and back out at the other end.

Family Kept in the Loop

Updates to family and providers along the way, and a clear handoff on arrival.

How it works

From the first message to the final bedside.

One Clinical Coordinator — a registered nurse — holds every step: the request, the itemized package, the clinical report, the paperwork and equipment, and the trip itself. Your family doesn’t have to.

Example only — every trip is planned and quoted individually.

Private pay, or invoiced directly to an assistance company or insurer; see how partners are billed.

The air-ambulance alternative

A fraction of the cost of a private air ambulance.

For a medically stable client, a commercial seat with a nurse beside them costs far less than a private medical jet — and it protects against the one cost families never plan for.

The risk families don’t budget for
$20K–$150K

What it can cost when an airline diverts for an unaccompanied passenger’s medical emergency. A trained escort onboard is a small fraction of that.

Industry estimate — not a guarantee.

When a commercial seat isn’t safe

We’ll help you arrange an air ambulance.

Rainbow Road Transport doesn’t operate air ambulances. If your loved one needs ICU-level care in the air, we’ll say so plainly, help you arrange one through an air-ambulance provider, and can handle the ground transport between the aircraft and the bedside here in Chicagoland.

For assistance companies, insurers & case managers

Send us the case. We’ll return one costed package.

Repatriations and long-distance medical escorts, built the way your team already works — physician clearance, the airline’s paperwork, every leg priced, and one invoice your claims reviewers can follow.

Escort positioning, the main mission, and escort return — plus ground at both ends — quoted together.

Fare Options Before Ticketing

We compare airlines, cabins, and nearby airports, and your team authorizes the package before any ticket is bought.

Medical Clearance Handled

Fit-to-fly confirmed with the treating physician, and the airline’s MEDIF completed for you.

Itemized or All-Inclusive

A line-item build by leg, or one all-inclusive case rate — whichever your file needs.

We invoice your company directly, with every leg broken out for cost containment and claims review.

Common questions

Questions we hear most.

Still unsure? Call (847) 585-8888 and a coordinator will walk you through it.

Non-emergency, medically stable clients — including those who need monitoring, oxygen via an FAA-approved portable concentrator, or medication management in flight. Our intake screens for stability before we confirm a trip.

A registered nurse, on every trip — from the bedside pickup, through the airport and the flight, to the handoff at the other end. There are no lower levels of escort to choose between.

Yes. The nurse traveling with your loved one holds a nursing license in the state they’re flying to, and all care follows the client’s physician orders.

Yes — we can arrange a stretcher on a commercial flight with an RN onboard for monitoring of a stable client.

We don’t operate air ambulances. ICU-level, ventilator-dependent, or unstable clients need one, and Flight Nurse Companion is the cost-effective alternative for clients who can safely travel commercial.

If an air ambulance is the right answer, we’ll tell you plainly, help you arrange one through an air-ambulance provider, and can handle the ground transport between the aircraft and the bedside in Chicagoland.

Every case is a custom, itemized package — airfare for every leg, the nurse’s days on the trip, oxygen and equipment, and ground at both ends all move the number. We compare fares across airlines, cabins, and nearby airports, and you approve the package before any ticket is bought. There’s no published rate card; partners can choose a line-item build or one all-inclusive case rate.

Because the nurse has to get to your loved one, and home again afterward. When the trip starts away from Chicagoland, the quote covers three legs: escort positioning (the nurse flies out to meet them), the main mission (they fly together, bedside to bedside), and escort return (the nurse flies home). All three are itemized up front, so the package you approve covers the whole trip.

Yes. Assistance companies, travel insurers, and cost-containment teams can be invoiced directly on Net-30 terms — itemized by leg, or as one all-inclusive case rate.

We don’t bill health insurance. Families paying privately get the same itemized invoice, which they can submit to a travel-insurance policy that reimburses medical escort costs.

Yes. We complete the airline’s Medical Information Form (MEDIF) with the client’s physician, and handle the airline’s advance-notice requirements — including for a portable oxygen concentrator or a stretcher.

Both. We coordinate domestic flights and international repatriation — any origin, any destination — paired with our own ground transport for the first and last mile.

Yes, via an FAA-approved portable oxygen concentrator, with airline advance notice handled. Compressed or liquid oxygen generally isn’t permitted onboard.
